Podsiadly Upgraded & Good News For Hitch

The Cats announced James Podsiadly’s long-overdue promotion to a senior list today. He has been upgraded in place of youngster Mitch Brown, but is still not guaranteed a jumper for round one. Neil Balme preferred to defer the responsibility of that decision to the match committee. It certainly will be an almighty anti-climax if does not feature for Geelong in round one.

Recently upgraded rookie Cameron Hitchcock has had his chances for a round one birth increased with the news that Motlop has damaged a glute. If Motlop fails to get up for round one, it virtually guarantees Hitch a game. He is more than likely to play after a solid pre-season anyway, but it just helps his cause.

Kurt Tippett is making a late run into the hearts of DT coaches with scores of 100 and 83 to close out the NAB Challenge games. His captain, Simon Goodwin, has also come out today and stated he should improve 25 to 30 percent this year. That is a scary prediction, given that he kicked 55 goals last year.

Goodwin also reckons Dangerfield is capable of averaging 24-30 touches a game this year. His pre-season would suggest otherwise and he has never done it before. It is a big ask for a kid that has more hype than anyone else going around. Especially given that he did nothing in the pre-season. It’s now or never kid.

An interesting article at AFL.com.au suggested recently that the Hawks are so desperate for a ruckman that Roughead or even Hodge may be used there occasionally this year. Roughead I believe, but Hodge..? Give me a break. The article then came to its senses and reported that Josh Gibson thinks it will be either Grimley or Lisle that relieves Renouf. That’s more like it.
